I’m seldom more at peace, more present, more myself than when I am manifesting something beautiful, an expression of something deep within. Creativity connects me to Life.

Both of my grandmothers were talented quilters. They never called themselves artists, but they did their work with love, creativity, and skill, and I suppose that’s where my fascination with textile arts began. For decades I’ve studied and practiced drawing, painting, sewing, quilting, and crocheting. In 2008 I was invited to have a juried booth at the renowned John Campbell Folk School’s Fall Festival, selling free-style, hanging Art Quilts. It was a great experience! I am also fortunate to sell my fiber art at several local galleries.

My lovely daughter, Sierra,is blessed with the natural talent of her artistic great-grandmothers. She graduated with a degree in Fine Art in 2013 and wanted to celebrate with me on a journey to Europe. Who could say no to exploring Italy, France, and Ireland with a kindred spirit whose enthusiasm for culture, exploration, and art are boundless?! We wanted to raise funds for the trip, so in 2014 we dreamed up Watercolor Muse, an enterprise founded on our mutual love for nature, vibrant color, and impressionistic and abstract styles. Sierra and I immediately felt that Watercolor Muse would be a fulfilling and enduring venture, a wonderful outlet for our creative expressions. In brainstorming marketable items we could each create, I was inspired to paint with dye-like, semi-transparent textile pigments on silky fabrics. I absolutely loved the results and have immersed myself since then in applying, exploring, and playing with the art of silk painting. Sierra is a masterful painter in all mediums but has recently focused on vibrant landscapes in alcohol ink, a relatively new but very challenging art form. For two and a half years she lived in New York City, working first at an art gallery in Greenwich Village and then at a high-end travel agency as a custom travel designer. She now spends 1/2 the year in Italy leading culturally immersive tours she offers through her own company, Creative Edge Travel (https://www.creativeedgetravel.com/) which allows travelers a unique experience of local people, intriguing activities, and breathtaking places off the beaten path.
